Diesel V6 power for Nissan off-roaders

Diesel V6 power for Nissan off-roaders

A midlife makeover of the Nissan Navara and Pathfinder has been revealed at the Geneva Motor Show. While there are a number of changes, the most exciting is the addition of a technologically advanced turbodiesel V6 engine.

Developed by the Renault/Nissan alliance, the V6 diesel will produce class-topping performance, especially for the Navara in its double cab segment. Thanks to a large single turbocharger, which is mounted within the “vee” of the engine, an intercooler, and the use of the latest generation of Bosch common-rail fuel injection, the engine develops 170 kW and 550 Nm of torque.
Better still, peak torque is achieved from as low as 1700 r/min and is available all the way to 2500 r/min, while as much as 500 Nm is available from a mere 1500 r/min.
Unfortunately it is unlikely that this engine will be introduced into the South African market until our fuel quality is improved.
But it’s not all bad news. The 2,5-litre diesel unit that is already available in South Africa has been given a significant upgrade, getting an 11% increase in power and torque. Power is up to 140 kW and torque up to 450 Nm, while fuel consumption is said to have improved too.
Subtle changes to the exterior of the vehicles differentiate them from their predecessors, and include a new bonnet, revised grille and a new bumper assembly. The Pathfinder also gets new headlights, and all V6 models get “V6” badging. New 18-inch alloy wheels join the range, while the Pathfinder gets squarer rear bumpers for a more rugged appearance.
The interior has also been improved by a number of new trim and material changes, as well as new features. A Speed Limiter is now integrated into the cruise-control system, while a rear-view camera will be an option on Navara models.
Nissan Connect Premium, the brand’s new integrated navigation, communication and music system is an optional extra. The 40GB hard drive-based system has a high-resolution touch screen with extended map coverage of Europe. It remains to be seen whether this feature will be available locally.
The new and improved Pathfinder and Navara ranges will go on sale in Europe in April, and will hopefully follow locally soon thereafter.

V6 Diesel
What will this baby cost ? Looking at Nissan's prices at the moment, I think the V6 will put you back the same price as a Hilux and a Corsa.
