“Everest is a vehicle with attitude to take on any challenge with an endless pursuit for the next family adventure,” says Ben Pillay, Ford Marketing Manager. “It is the type of vehicle many South Africans identify with because it suits our environment so well: it is well-suited to daily urban use thanks to its refined comforts, but has the ruggedness to take on any adventure thrown at it. It’s the ultimate family adventure tool.”
The new seven-seater SUV features bold styling in line with Ford’s Kinetic design elements, complete with chrome grill and tailgate mounted spare wheel. The versatile interior will suit any adventure-seeking family with third row seating that is either completely removable, or folds to offer the largest cargo volume in its segment. Another first for the class, and immensely practical, is the side-hinged rear door as opposed to a traditional tailgate that allows the full-size spare wheel to be mounted on the back of the Everest.
Three models of the Everest will be available, all powered by Ford’s acclaimed Duratorq TDCi diesel engine. The 3,0-litre engine employs advanced injection technology – intercooler and variable-geometry turbocharging – to deliver 115 kW and 380 Nm of torque at 1800 r/min.
Driving through a five-speed manual transmission, the Ford Everest XLT is available in either 4x2 or 4x4 guise. The Everest LTD is available in 4x4 only with a five-speed automatic transmission with electronic shift-on-the-fly.
Standard features include leather upholstery, an audio system with MP3 capability and auxiliary input connections, power fold mirrors with turn indicators, electric windows (front and rear) and air conditioning, four airbags and ABS with EBD.
The Ford Everest comes with a five-year/90 000km service plan. Prices are as follows:
Ford Everest 3.0 TDCi XLT 4x2 Manual R324 990
Ford Everest 3.0 TDCi XLT 4x4 Manual R364 990
Ford Everest 3.0 TDCi LTD 4x4 Automatic R382 990

anytime again
I lived 5 years in Thailand and had an Everest from the first to the last day. 100.000km in the roughest city trafic in the world and 70.000 km upcountry with deep mud, flooded roads and severely slippery tropical forrest tracks. 170.000km all in and not one repair.I would buy one anytime again (except in Singapore where I live now:)

What?
If you already had 3,does this mean they only last 4 months because it's only been on the market about 1 year????????

Tata Safari
From the rear it looks like a Tata Safari.Pitty Ford didn't spend a bit more time on styling, but I could live with the engine and great interior space.Maybe owners can put a picture of a pretty lady on the rear, then nobody will notice the extreme overhang!!!!!

JEALOUSY MAKES YOU NASTY...
I would just like to add my 5 cents worth to all the Ford Everest Nay-sayers. I myself am a huge VW fan, always have been and always will be, BUT the Everest has rocked my world. My husband acquired his new baby in Jan 2010 and we have had fun, fun, fun and unrivalled fuel economy from the so-called "farm implement". Its rear wheel cover is really no better than horribly expensive Toyota Prado's? The back of the Nissan Fathfinder is defnitely not pretty either, so whats this trivial "cosmetic" babble about. Even I, as a woman know that its whats under the bonnet that counts...much like a good man???

simply great
The Everest has the comfort and driving, great aircon awesome stereo power plus to cruise up Kennon rd to Baguio City without a problem of passing the slow trucks. I am well pleased.

A Leap Backwards!
The 2010 Everest looks like a 1990 Ford Explorer, slightly stretched to fit a bakkie chassis and sent to GWM for styling. The rear suspension - leaf springs!Although I am not a Toyota fan, by comparison, this just how good a job they have done with the Fortuner. The Everest replacing the Aussie built Territory? Clearly a leap backwards!

Consumption
My 2,5L Tdi, 4x4 manual diesel Everest goes at best 7,7 litres/100km, when driving mostly 80km/h-120km/h on country roads. In the the city and when stuck in traffic jams it consumes easily over 12l/100km.

I Like
Wish I could afford to swop my Merc. C 180 & Twincab Isuzu for one as I live in Port St Johns

Do Something!
The vast majority of comments raise the issue of its unattractive rear. This is a highly capable vehicle. Ford, kindly listen, subtly redesign the back and sell double your present numbers. I will be at the front of the queue!

UGLY? WTF?
for the guys who said that "its fu*&^ing ugly".. to hell with you... you dont have cash to buy it in full... pity...

FUEL ECONOMY
I think this vehicle is great with its looks and price is affordable. Can anybody comment on the fuel consumption of this macho vehicle

Swing that cat !
Oh yeah baby!!The length provides room for 7 fat ass cats with room to swing one ( toy one pleez) No diddle daddle buttons that you hardly ever use so you more likely to keep ur eyes on the road.Note some R500000plus SUV's 6th & 7th seats - pathetic. That True Blue blood still runs.Ford.You beauty! You make me proud!

Almost
Saw a metallic blue Everest yesterday.Bull bar added and raised suspension. It looked WOW! Then I walked to the back and BAM, that ugly rear hit me in the face.Pitty

unappealing for young
I think Ford Everest is marketing for the generation of second world war. My old man likes it, but I don't.
Posted By: Andrew on 2010/02/22
Cover Off
Looks much better with the spare wheel cover removed.
Posted By: Lover on 2010/02/19
Ugly Indeed
Sometimes I wonder why someone in their right senses will design this ugly and expect customers to buy. I thought these guys do market test of the prototype first before going into real production
Posted By: Thabani on 2010/02/18
Nice but...
I think that the Everest is a very affordable and capable vehicle. The square shape will not be every one's cup of tea but then again some will love it. My problem with it is the lack of a rear diff lock. It appears from reports that the LS didd is good but man o man there will be many instances when a diff lock would be far better. Great to see some genuine competition for the Fortuner though.

Ouch!
Im not a Ford fan but must admit that the ranger looks phenomenal. However Ford has again dropped the ball with the Everest, Its looks compete with the old Fiat Multipla and take home the ugly award
Posted By: No Deal on 2010/02/11
He****
Poor Ford couldn't afford a designer so they just used a ruler.Painted black Everest should be a winner with funeral parlours.

ugly
I would buy one tomorrow if it didn't have that wheel stuck out the back like a big wart on bum
Posted By: carolyn on 2010/01/12
Kicks ass!
Drove it, drove other SUVs, the ones mentioned here and more. We got the 4x2 limited AT. Quick enough, good response, a bit long but easy to maneuver. Stable, robust and has a good audio system.
Posted By: The Aion on 2010/01/06
No diff-lock or cruise control?
Generally, Ford now has a fairly good SUV, but why not make it fully cpmpetable with the Fortuner or Pajero Sport?(Oh, and what was the issue about a Ford Ranger's rear axle not being allowed under water? - Complaint in Beeld)If a Ranger can't, then surely the Everest also can't handle water over the rear axle?

Ugly!!!
Hope it goes better than it looks!

Strong Looks
Looks tough & ready for the bundu & our crappy roads, beats Fortuner (& others)soft girly looks. True Blue FORD (F..... Ordentlikke Ry Ding!!!)
Posted By: Greg. KZN on 2009/11/04
Kolskoot!

Average
Makes the GWM Hover look even more appealing especially at R212 000. All I can say is that Toyota, Mitsubishi and Ford had better watch out for the release of the new GWM Hover 3. At half the price, similar specs, 4 star N-CAP rating and excellent reliability record in China, it would be a no brainer to spend twice as much for such average 'branded' vehicles.

So lonnngggg
The spare wheel on the back makes this look like a really long vehicle. Not sure it will fit in my garage. pricing is okay, particularly when compared to the new Pajero Sport. I would howver be concerend at quality, as Ford Rangers usually don't score well on JD Power surveys. I'm not a Toyota fan but think the Fortuner would be a better buy in the long run. Resale value is phenomenal.
